Meet the Small Animal Team

Lynne Whitefield BVMS MRCVS

Small Animal Director

Lynne graduated from Glasgow Vet School in 2007 and worked for five years in mixed practice in Chesire before moving back to her roots in Lanarkshire to join the Clyde team in 2013. While she enjoys all aspects of small animal practice she is particularly interested in internal medicine and cardiology. In her spare time, she likes keeping active and getting outdoors, as well as attempting to cook and the odd spot of retail therapy.

Areatha Lovatt

Reception Manager

Areatha joined Clyde in 2010 as a receptionist, continuing her 25 year career in the role. By 2016 she became a line manager for small animal and farm colleagues. Outside of work she enjoys spending time with her family, including her two dogs, Stella and Hope. She is definitely the mum of Clyde Vets, looking after – and feeding – everybody!

Tim Borthwick

Vet

Originally from Newcastle, Tim graduated from Edinburgh in 2014 and worked in mixed practice for two years before joining Clyde in 2016. He has a strong interest in surgery, especially orthopaedics. In his spare time, Tim enjoys looking after his young daughter and taking his dog Wally for walks with his wife Clare.

Fabienne Giraud

Vet

Fabienne first started her journey at Clyde as a student volunteering after school and during holidays. She graduated from Glasgow University in 2018, and joined us again as one of our small animal vets. When not working she can be found renovating her house, cooking tasty meals or outside exploring, often with her collies and mischievous chocolate lab by her side.

Jenny Milner

Vet

Jenny graduated from Edinburgh University in 2004, and after working in mixed practice for several years she joined Clyde in 2009. She has an interest in soft tissue surgery and ophthalmology. She currently has two cats and a dog, and outside of work she enjoys spending time with her young family, mountain biking, white-water kayaking and canoeing.

Jo Veitch

Vet

Jo graduated from Glasgow Vet School in 2005 and worked in mixed practice for five years before concentrating on small animals. She then spent six years working in Hong Kong, before returning to Scotland with her young family and joining our team in 2018. She loves all aspects of general practice, and has an interest in soft tissue and orthopedic surgery.

Zoe Cramb

Registered Veterinary Nurse

Zoe started work experience at Clyde when she was 15 and soon got employed part-time at the weekends, and completed her university placement with us as well. Now she’s delighted to be with us full-time! At work, she has a keen interest in wound management and medical cases. Outside of work, Zoe enjoys horse riding, going for dog walks and spending time with her two cats, Louie and Mowgli. She is also obsessed with Boxer dogs!

Carla Nisbet

Registered Veterinary Nurse

Carla joined the practice in 2017, and graduated later that year as an RVN. She enjoys all parts of the job, especially nursing inpatients back to health. Outside of work she enjoys walking with her dogs and also plays and tutors in her local pipe band as a tenor drummer.

Lynn Silvester

Registered Veterinary Nurse

Lynn joined us in 2016. She has qualifications in animal care and is currently studying for a diploma in veterinary nursing. She has always worked with animals and has a cat of her own at home. Outside of work, she’s a busy mum of two and enjoys hillwalking. Last year she climbed Ben Nevis!

Amanda Cook

Nursing Assistant

Amanda joined Clyde in 2017 and has taken on a range of qualifications since. She enjoys learning and developing new skills and is always seeking to improve. Her specific interests include feline behaviour and understanding feline body and facial language. At home she has two cats, Hugo and Lola, and enjoys horse riding.

Lynsey Stewart

Nursing Assistant

Lynsey joined the team in 2018, after working in animal rehabilitation and rehoming. She loves working at Clyde, and is aiming to further her nursing qualifications. In her spare time, she enjoys taking her dogs for long walks and spending time with her family and friends.

Amy Cunningham

Receptionist

Amy has loved every minute of her job since joining us in 2020, especially the chance to meet all of the animals who come into the practice! When she is not at work, she spends time with her fun, loving, energetic miniature goldendoodle, Ollie.

Jenna Knight

Receptionist

Jenna started her career in animal care working at the Dog’s Trust as a canine carer. While there, she gained a certificate in Small Animal Nutrition Training and Canine Nutrition. In 2017, she joined Edinburgh University as an Animal Care Assistant. Jenna then joined Clyde Vets in November 2020 where she enjoys the fast pace of reception work, and is usually found surrounded by post it notes!
Outside of work, Jenna is in world of hobby confirmation showing with her Dalmatian, and placed in the yearling class at Crufts 2020. She enjoys walking her dogs, reading true crime books and anything craft based. While Jenna will never say no to a puppy cuddle, she has a soft spot for OAP patients.

Isobel Struthers

Receptionist

Isobel joined Clyde back in 2001. She has a farming background, and currently has sheep and cattle. Previously, she has owned horses, cats, and dogs. In her spare time, she loves to talk long walks and socialise with her friends!

Niall Kenny BSc MA PhD Vet MB MRCVS

Small Animal Director

Niall originally worked as an academic, before qualifying in veterinary medicine from Cambridge University in 1995, moving north to Lanark the following year. He is currently working towards the RCVS certificate in small animal medicine, and has extensive interests in veterinary history, including serving as an advisor to several libraries. He is married with twin daughters.

Suzi Maule

Branch Manager

Suzanne has been in the veterinary profession since the 1990s, initially as a mixed practice nursing assistant, before moving into management. At home she has a wee ginger guinea pig called Ron and enjoys spending time with family and friends, gardening, watching movies, going out for dinner and exercise classes.

Lisa Barr

Vet

Lisa graduated from Edinburgh vet school in 2019 and has worked in small animal practice at Clyde Vet Group ever since. She has enjoyed all aspects of her first year in general practice but has a particular interest in medicine. Outside of work, Lisa can usually be found socialising with friends or walking her dogs. She also enjoys climbing the occasional hill and travelling when she has the opportunity.

Holly graduated from The University of Glasgow in 2017 prior to joining our team. She grew up in Malaga and speaks fluent Spanish. She enjoys all aspects of small animal practice, especially soft tissue surgery and the occasional cuddle with her patients! Outside of work, she enjoys cooking, travelling abroad and exploring the wonderful scenery Scotland has to offer.

Lisa has been part of the team since 2008 and is our resident crazy cat lady! She loves all aspects of her work, with a particular passion for orthopaedic nursing and radiography. At home, she has three chinchillas and nine ragdoll cats, as well as whatever waif or stray comes in and needs some TLC!

Lindsay joined Clyde in 2014 as a nursing assistant, and is currently studying for her diploma in vet nursing at college. She enjoys all aspects of working with small animals. Outside work she enjoys walking with her dog, spending time with her horses, and helping out at a riding school.

Caroline joined Clyde back in 1999 as a Nursing Assistant and loves her job just as much as she did when she first started! At home, she is kept busy tending to her six sheep, five ducks, fivehens, a cat and a dog! Whenever she gets some free time, she loves to go for long walks with her dog.

Stephanie joined us in 2016 and works with our small animal and farm departments. She has a degree in digital media from City of Glasgow College and designs our leaflets and posters. Outside work, she enjoys owning her thoroughbred ex-racehorse Poets, as well as kitten, Esme. You will find her wherever there are cats!

Carol Walkinshaw

Receptionist

Carol joined Clyde Vets in 2016 as a Receptionist. She used to work in the hotel sector and now thinks she has the best job ever seeing all the fur babies that come into the practice! She loves dogs and has two Westies of her own, Isla and Lola, with whom she loves to take for walks. In her spare time she loves to spend time with her friends.

Pamela Kay

Head Nurse

Pamela joined the practice in 2003 as a vet nursing assistant, progressing to become an RVN, and our head nurse in 2010. She particularly enjoys nurse consultations and puppy socialisation classes, while also having a keen interest in wound management and nutrition. Patient rehabilitation is another area of interest, in which she hopes to develop in the future.

Hazel Irvine

Branch Manager

Over thirty years have flown past working within our small animal department for Hazel. Her main role is co-managing the busy Wishaw surgery, especially focusing on insurance. She loves being able to meet all of the animals in our care, and is particularly interested in improving our client care. At home she has a dog, Casey, and three fast-growing boys!

Lorna Christie

Lorna graduated from the University of Glasgow in 2003 and worked in small animal practices in England, Wales, Australia and New Zealand before joining the team in 2015. She enjoys all aspects of general practice and has a keen interest in dermatology and feline medicine. Outside of work she is kept busy with her two young children and dog, and likes to spend her spare time baking and swimming.

Mairi McLaughlin

Mairi joined Clyde in 2017, after qualifying from Glasgow Vet School in 2014 and spending time in mixed practice in Newcastle, as well as New Zealand, where she worked with small animals, including the odd kiwi and penguin! Outside of the job, she loves being outdoors, skiing, tackling the occasional Munro and taking every opportunity to travel more.

Andrew Robb

Vet

Andy joined the team after graduating from the University of Surrey in 2019. Having grown up in Lanark, he was a well-known face in the practice even before this, completing work experience with us while at high school and again as a vet student. He has a particular interest in soft tissue surgery. Outside work, you’ll likely find him watching rugby, eating, or climbing the odd hill with his border collie, Mac.

Robyn started at Clyde Vets in May 2016 and qualified as a Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) in July 2016. Robyn is interested in canine behaviour, particularly Canine Cognitive Dysfunction (CCD). She runs CCD consults, nurse consults and puppy classes and is a Clinical Coach. In her spare time, Robyn can be found on adventures with her 3 dogs, Danny, Nim and Princess or being busy in her house due to her mild cleaning obsession!

Fiona qualified as an RVN in 2007 and worked in the Auchenheath branch for a year covering maternity leave, and returned again in 2015 to work part time. She is now part of the team in Lesmahagow. In her spare time, she enjoys going on walks with her family and her blind dog Sam, and knitting – when the cat Willow leaves the wool alone!

Abbey currently works at Clyde Vet Group as a Nursing Assistant and has been there since December 2016. Abbey loves every aspect of her job, especially that every day brings new experiences and challenges!

Laura Dunlop

Kennel Assistant

Laura joined Clyde Vet Group in May 2017 as a Small Animal Kennel Assistant. Her role includes helping look after any patients, caring for day patients that come in surgery, and assisting Vets in consults. Laura loves every aspect of her job even though it can get a bit messy sometimes! She is currently completing an online SRUC Veterinary Care Assistant Level 2 Diploma. In her free time, she likes to spend time with family and friends and go walks with her Jack Russell, Scout.

Melissa Kerr

Melissa started out volunteering with us after school in 2015, and has never left! She is studying to become a veterinary nurse and enjoys every aspect of the job, especially working with older patients. Outside work she enjoys spending much of her time outside, walking her dog Buddy, skiing and taking any opportunity to travel.

Laura Murray-Darroch

Receptionist

Laura joined our reception team in 2020, continuing a career in the veterinary industry that started in 2000 as a nursing assistant. She also spent time working in the financial industry, but joined Clyde after missing all of the animals. Outside work, she enjoys spending time with her family along with looking after her two dogs, Layla and Lacey, and her son’s rabbit Reggie.

Lucy Wallace

Receptionist

Lucy joined the team in 2019, and while she is at university studying to be a child nurse, she absolutely loves working with animals – sometimes she finds it hard to leave work! In her spare time, she loves going out with friends and going to the gym.
