Meet 8 year old Jilly who was first brought to us when she was just a puppy after having an intussusception of the gut. This is a serious life threatening condition in which part of the small intestine telescopes into itself.

This telescoping action often blocks food or fluid from passing through causing a complete obstruction of the gastrointestinal system. Intussusception also cuts off the blood supply to the part of the intestine that's affected.

Jilly underwent emergency surgery and we resected 10cm of her intestine as this had become necrotic due to a lack of blood supply.

As a consequence of the vomiting and diarrhea previous to the surgery, she also ended up with aspiration pneumonia to contend with.

She visited us 8 years later and is still a firm favourite amongst staff!
