Andrew McDiarmid: equine vetAndrew McDiarmid BVM&S Cert ES (Orth) MRCVS has been the partner responsible for the equine side of the practice since 2003.  He qualified from Edinburgh in 1988 and worked initially at the Liphook Equine Hospital in Hampshire. Andrew joined the Royal (Dick) Veterinary School in Edinburgh in 1990, first as the ILPH Resident in Equine Orthopaedics, then undertook a lecturers position before becoming a senior lecturer and head of Large Animal Orthopaedics.  He left Edinburgh in 2000 to work in equine practice in Gloucestershire.  Andrew’s area of expertise is equine lameness on which he has published many original scientific papers and has lectured at numerous veterinary conferences around the world. He is currently chief examiner for the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Certificate in Equine Surgery (orthopaedics).  Andrew is married with a young daughter and son.

Louise Cornish: equine vetLouise Cornish BVMS Cert EP MRCVS graduated from Glasgow Veterinary School in 1998.  Louise has worked in Ireland and in an equine practice in Australia and upon her return to Scotland joined us at Lanark in 2002. She is a keen horse rider and competed in carriage driving events in her earlier years.  In 2007 Louise obtained the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Certificate in Equine Practice. Her main areas of interest are studwork (including AI), anaesthesia, internal medicine and geriatrics. Louise is the senior equine assistance and is currently responsible for all equine anaesthetics and AI at Clyde Vet Group
Dr David SuttonDr David Sutton MA Vet MB Cert EM (Int. Med) DECEIM PhD MRCVS qualified from Cambridge Vet School in 1995. He worked in general practice in Yorkshire for 2 years prior to undertaking a 2-year residency at Glasgow University.  During the residency programme he obtained the Certificate in Equine Medicine (Internal Medicine). David remained at Glasgow to undertake a PhD in liaison with Texas A&M University on equine gastrointestinal motility, physiology and pharmacology. Following the PhD he moved to South Africa to take the position of senior medicine clinician in the equine hospital of the University of Pretoria.  David recently became a diplomat of the European College in Equine Internal Medicine.  David is responsible for the equine medicine referral side of Clyde Vet Group. 

Austen MarrAusten Marr BVM&S MRCVS graduated from Edinburgh Vet School in 2002 and joined Acorn Vet Centre in Lanark as a mixed vet.  After the merger with Clyde Valley Vets in 2003 to form Clyde Vet Group he moved to a large animal job, this became more equine orientated and now from February 2007 has become a full time part of the equine team.  Austen is responsible for scintigraphy. Austen is interested in most areas of equine work but particularly Anaesthesia and Stud Work.

Chris Calder Equine VetChris Calder BVM&S MRCVS graduated from the Royal Dick Vet, Edinburgh in 2005. He worked for two years in Fife doing mixed practice where he was involved with farm, small animal and equine cases. Over this time his equine work load increased and he now wishes to work in a dedicated equine practice. He has always been involved in equine activities having competed ponies as a child, instructed for many years and currently has a young horse that he is bringing on. He is interested in all aspects of equine practice and specifically enjoys equine medicine, respiratory cases and endoscopy.

Equine VetAlan Mueller BVM&S BSc MRCVS graduated from the Royal Dick in 2005 and worked initially with Hallmarq Veterinary Imaging (a provider of MRI for horses) providing veterinary support.  He then embarked upon a twelve month equine internship at the Dierenkliniek de Bosdreef in Belgium, a busy referral centre accepting patients from four countries.  Since the Autumn of 2006 Alan worked at the Rainbow Equine Clinic, Malton, North Yorkshire providing ambulatory and referral care to the East Riding.  Alan’s professional interests include surgery, with a bias towards gastroenterology and colic surgery.  Outside his work Alan’s principle interest is in choral music and opera and is currently studying with Michael deCosta, E.N.O.  

Sarah Gasper: Equine VetSarah Gasper BVM&S MRCVS qualified from Edinburgh University in 2002 and spent 2 years working in mixed practice in Wales, then after a brief stint travelling came back to pursue her main interest of equine work in 2005. She has recently returned from Australia where she was working in an all purpose equine clinic and stud.  Sarah has joined the practice on a part time basis over the summer of 2009 to give extra vet cover. 

Lindsay MacDonaldLindsay MacDonald started work with Acorn Vet Centre in March 1992. She first started work as a small animal nursing assistant and progressed on to working in admin and dealing with the equine and farm clients. After the merger of Acorn Vet Centre and Clyde Valley Vets in August 2002, Lindsay concentrated on working with the Equine side of the practice and as of January 2005 took on the role of Equine Manager.
Fiona Main: equine nurseFiona Main VN qualified in 1998 as a veterinary nurse initially working in Inverness as a small animal nurse before moving in 2001 to Newmarket to work at Rossdale and Partners Equine Hospital where she trained in all aspects of equine nursing.  Her special interests include theatre nursing, intensive care and foal medicine where she was lucky enough to work in the Dr Peter Rossdale intensive care foal unit.
With the opening of the new clinic Fiona returns to Lanark where she was born and bred and also where her horse bug first had its bite 20 years ago. Together with her equine hobbies, as Fiona has her own horse she also finds some time during the winter months to snowboard and hopes now back in Lanarkshire to pick up her curling skills.
Stacey Duncan Stacey Duncan joined the equine division in 2006 and works as an equine nursing assistant.  Stacey is involved in all aspects of the equine clinic from looking after the horse inpatients to assisting in the operating theatre. Stacey has her own horse and regularly competes at local shows.
Val Richardson also joined the equine team in 2006 and works with Stacey as an equine nursing assistant.  Similar to Stacey, Val assists in all the various areas of equine clinic including scintigraphy, x-ray and in theatre. 
Kathryn: Equine Hospital ReceptionistKathryn Muir joined the Equine Hospital in September 2008 as our equine receptionist.  Kathryn has owned horses for 30 Years. She has a passion for eventing and has evented her current horse Ruadh up to intermediate level. Her greatest achievement was coming 5th at Blair International Event 1* three day event in 2005. Her achievement was all the more impressive as Kathryn bred Ruadh herself.

Geoff Lane Equine Vet

Geoff Lane BVetMed DESTS FRCVS Graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in 1969. After a period in mixed practice in Berkshire he moved to Bristol University to undergo training as an ENT Surgeon & gaining his Fellowship of the Royal College in 1974 and  remaining at the University for 30 years. He is a recognised RCVS Specialist in Soft Tissue Surgery and was a BEVA President in 1989. For the last 5 years he has carried out consulting work for private referral practices and performs several hundred upper respiratory tract procedures each year.

 

 

Sandy Beveridge and Stuart Armstrong

Sandy Beveridge FWCF, has practiced farriery for the past twenty five years. He gained his fellowship of the Worshipful Company of Farriers in 1989 and has been an Examiner for the Company for the last sixteen years.  Over the last ten years he has been involved in the training of Apprentices and has taught and lectured farriery in various countries overseas.

Stewart Armstrong FWCF, has practised farriery for the past twelve years and gained the Fellowship of the Worship Company of Farriers in 2005 making him the youngest person to gain this exam. He has recently been invited by the Worshipful Company to be an examiner and has competed with success at both local and international level.
